3D printing

Today, my 3D lecturer brought our class VA1D to the national design centre which is just a stone's throw away from our college.

There's a workshop locate at the ground floor of NDC , which is run by OMG.
OMG stands for One Maker Group . OneMaker Group is a consortium of 6 companies, coming together to spearhead and accelerate the innovation and entrepreneurship scene in Singapore – Sustainable Living Lab (SL2), Simplifi3D, Eian Williams Consulting, Home-Fix, Focustech Ventures and also SmartSpace.

The workshop doesn't only provide 3D printing services but also , 

Digital Fabrication, Coaters, Hand Tools, Power tools, Electronics, Machines like

• Bench Drilling Machine (Max Bit Diameter: 20 mm)
• Band Saw
• Scroll Saw
• Mitre Saw
• Table Saw
• Belt / Disc Sander
• Wood Router
• Wood Planer (Max Width: 304 mm)

My main focus for today post is the 3D printing service they have. Is either i am from the jungle or i got zero knowledge about it, its my first time to come across this BRILLIANT invention or i can say an invention that makes life soooooooo much easier. ( p/s hope human wont be getting lazier ) 

I felt like alien came to earth and invade us.. its incredible a printer can print such stuff !!!

How does it works? Go to the any workshop with 3D printer, hand in your sketch or master piece that you wan them to appear in front of you / in LIFE instead of stuck inside a damn paper .

Last but not least, they gave me this paper clip that is PRINT ( not made ) out of the 3D printer because i am dumbfounded . 

Get It Right

Referring my previous post - PACKAGING GONE WRONG , today i will post about PACKAGING GOT IT RIGHT ! hehe

Its a group work for our creative thinking class. We have to choose a product cost less than SGD 5 which packaging is improper and improve the design.  

This is the lucky product that had chosen by us . Its actually a orange fruit punch juice but doesnt it looks more like.... HAIRSPRAY????? especially the fact that the contrast goes to the guy on the middle of the bottle.. that had superb stylish hairstyle and smelling his watch.. HAHA 

My group consist of four member which is Cynthia, Delfy, Elaine and Me of course ! We decide to make a milk carton box and decorate it with the theme : Juicy Orange 

Why carton box? It looks more organic and i am sure consumer assume the content to be JUICE instead of hairspray :P 

First, we start off drawing the template of carton box and cut them out .

then we started decorating it

Foundation Typography

I will be blogging about FOUNDATION typography. haha wonder why i capitalize the word FOUNDATION? because i am a beginner to typography. There's alot of professional out there which is good at typography and its their major career to earn .

Juxtaposition

Today i will be blogging about juxtaposition . A new word i have learnt today which define as two unrelated objects that when united create a new meaning .

Kirigami

today i will be blogging about kirigami. I wonder if you guys know what's kirigami, but its my first time to come across that word or what i can say is my first time gaining soo much knowledge about kirigami and i appreciate the art of kirigami.

Does it sounds similar to origami? It's not the same .

Definition of Kirigami : Kirigami (切り紙^?) is a variation of origami that includes cutting of the paper (from Japanese "kiru" = to cut, "kami" = paper), rather than solely folding the paper as is the case with origami. It is also called "Kirie" (切り絵). From "Kiru"= to cut, "e"= picture.
Typically, kirigami starts with a folded base, which is then cut; cuts are then opened and flattened to make the finished kirigami. Kirigami are usually symmetrical, such as snowflakes, pentagrams, or orchid blossoms. ( source from wikipedia )

These are the examples of Kirigami .

Usually kirigami are used to make pop up cards. 

I am really interested with the knowledge of kirigami so, i tried it out myself. 

The paper i used are 2 pieces of 120gsm A3. One function as the base and the second one pasted one top of the base.
